The FCD Rant: Pizza Hut Park, WHO are WE?
That's the question I wish I'd ask Mr. Don Garber here or whomever named the FC Dallas Stadium Pizza Hut Park. Who are we? Or better yet? Who's MLS?
When I found out about this today, I had a tempertantrum. You'll read why shortly. And while Sean thinks Pizza Hut Park is class, I think it's absolute trash!
IS MLS A CLONE OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!? Sure Premiership has Stadiums with the word PARK in them but since we're in the U.S, people will identify or relate the word PARK with Baseball. It's true, it's the absolute and obvious truth.
The last thing this league needed is for a Soccer facility to associated with Major League Baseball. And let me tell you right now IF I lived in Dallas and IF I had a chance I would go around asking people the following question:
What sport would you associate Pizza Hut Park with?
Now ask yourself this, What would be the top answer? Football, no, ummm perhaps Basketball? Or why not Soccer? NOT IN A MILLION YEARS ummm would Baseball be the top answer, definately. There is no chance a normal average American would associate Pizza Hut Park with Soccer NEVER!
IF THIS LEAGUE wants to create a lightbulb around the average anti-soccer American, they gotta turn it up a notch! With this whole Pizza Hut Park your creating a Baseball Spark in the average American's mind. FOR ONCE GARBER, FOR ONCE make the rest of America interested in this sport. I bet if the F.C Dallas Stadium were to be named something interesting, it would gain interest in the local Dallas resident. Trust me, it would. They would be attending opening day to see what the fuss is about with this brand new soccer facility. They would buy a ticket, watch the game, and BOOM! Right before you know it, you have created a NEW FC Dallas Fan who has never even played or watched Soccer in his entire life. But instead your motioning for the sound guy to play "Take me out to the Ball Game".
I mean can you go any lower than this?
And if anonyone outhere could hear my pain I say this....
I PRAY that opening day goes well, I PRAY that new fans are made, and darn it I PRAY that this whole Pizza Hut Park ordeal is a success and not a total flop. And if the stuff that I'm praying for doesn't happen, well let me put it to you all this way. All the Stadium hype for nothing. Seriously, i'd be ridiculous YET humuliating to have 10,000 fans instead of a sell out. This league is 10 years old and still 10,000 fans? C'mon MLS can do better, but guess what, they can't? Why? because Garber doesn't want to. I hope for a SELL OUT and for the people to comeback week after week to watch FC Dallas and for FC Dallas to not have the same situation as both the Galaxy and Columbus. What situation would that be?
Well, they both had IMPRESSIVE sell out numbers on opening day, and now they have an ambarrassing 10,000 fan numbers.
That's my FCD Rant, and that's my opinion.
