Revs break team record for wins in a season with win over Salt Lake
Salt Lake City, UT. – The New England Revolution won their 14th game of the season with a 1-0 victory on the road against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Khano Smith scored the lone goal of the match as the Revs reached 14 wins for the first time in their ten year history. With 7 games remaining the Revs currently have 48 points, their best ever points total, surpassing the 45 reached in 2003.

The Revs were without Taylor Twellman (USA), Steve Ralston (USA), Avery John (Trinidad & Tobago), and newly signed Ricardo Phillips (Panama) due to CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.

Real Salt Lake had the first good chance of the match in the 21st minute, when the ball fell to Robert Scarlet off a corner kick. Scarlet’s hard shot on target, beat goalie Matt Reis, but was cleared off the line by Marshall Leonard.

Andy Williams forced Reis into a diving save seven minutes later, with a long range blast from 25 yards out.

Jose Cancela forced Real Salt Lake goalie DJ Countess into a difficult save, with a powerful shot just before halftime.

Jason Kreis put the Revs under pressure in the 48th minute, but his shot hit off the crossbar and went out of play.

The Revs had a shout for a penalty kick in the 50th minute, when Andy Dorman was pushed down in the box by a Salt Lake defender. Referee Ramon Hernandez, however, wouldn’t make the call.

Khano Smith scored the game winner in the 76th minute, two minutes after entering the game. Smith received the ball about 30 yards out from the Revs goal, then ran all the way to about 20 yards out from Salt Lake’s goal before sending a low shot past Countess and into the far post for his third goal of the season.

With the win, the Revs remain on top of the Eastern Conference as well as the overall standings in Major League Soccer.
