MetroStars End Losing Streak
The MetroStars ended their 3 game losing streak at home with a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. This is only the third shutout of the year for the MetroStars, who have allowed the most goals in the league this season.

The games real chances would only come late into the first half. The first great attempt came from a breakdown in the Metro defense. Jamil Walker launched a shot deep in the box which came of the post and was cleared out, the MetroStars were inches from allowing the first goal.

The Metros would get a chance next as a freekick from a great spot found the head of Mike Magee, but he was unable to get a good turn on it, and knocked it right at Pat Onstad. Seconds later Amado Guevara dribbled his way into the box and launched a chip but got too much power and height on it, and was unable to capitalize on the chance.

A minute into stoppage time a great cross from Guevara found an open John Wolyniec, who jumped just to high onto the ball and wasn't able to aim the shot down, instead he knocked it just over the bar.

It would take untill the second half for one of the teams to score. The MetroStars fought back for the ball after a corner kick that they had lost. A great advantage call led to a pass from Craig Ziadie to Wolyniec who was running into the right side of the box. Wolyniec hit it with all he had and was able to beat the keeper.

Just minutes later San Jose would have their chance as a free kick led to a deflection away which fell to Ronnie Ekeuland, who made a pass through the box. The ball found the feet of Dwayne De Rosario, who tapped the ball into the net. The goal was ruled offside because of another player involved in the play.

The MetroStars found be able to to finish off the game, after a great run into the box by Mike Magee led to a penalty kick call, and Guevara was able to step up and take the kick, he kicked to the left and beat Onstad to give the Metros a 2-0 win at home.
