“Yellow” Fire tie Metros
Bob Bradley entered the night looking for his 100th win on the night as the MetroStars took on the Chicago Fire in the windy city. The Fire were looking for their first win in 6 games, and the Metros were looking to beat the Fire for the first time in over a year. Neither team came out happy as they settled for a 1-1 tie.

In the early minutes of the game a great cross from the midfield by Chris Armas sent Damani Ralph on the run. Eddie Pope after tracking back made an attempt to get the ball but couldn’t get far enough to reach it. Ralph faked out Jonny Walker, got past him and tapped it into the back of the net.

Minutes later John Wolyniec took the first real attempt for the Metros, as a great turn around in the box led to a low shot right through the legs of the Chicago defenders. Henry Ring was able to get a look at the ball before it went in, and came up with the save.

Later into the game Ralph would find himself, dancing between the Metro defense at the top of the box. He took a low shot, expecting Walker to be screened. Walker reached out to his left, and had the whole goal covered even though the shot went wide.

In the 33rd minute Amado Guevara had his first bright spot of the night, as a simple chip from outside the box found a running Wolyniec who attempted to chip the ball over Chicago keeper, but instead he was stuffed and knocked over.

The second half would lead to more shots by Chicago, including a Nate Jaqua shot that was easily saved by Walker. Later on Walker would find himself making an amazing kick save to prevent a shot from Chicago’s Ralph. Walker made many saves during the game to keep the MetroStars alive.

That extra lifeline Walker provided paid off, after a quick restart on a foul, Amado Guevara passed to John Wolyniec. Wolyniec made an attempt a cross through the box, it hit the arm of C.J. Brown, and a penalty kick was called. Amado Guevara stepped up, and scored his 4 goal from the spot this season.
