Metros put out the Fire
In coach Bob Bradley's 100th win, the MetroStars would find themselves putting out their eastern rival for the first time in over a year. Bradley's 100th win comes against his former team, and first win against the Fire. The MetroStars were able to take this win to advance themselves to a higher spot in the eastern conference and have a 5 point advantage heading into the All-Star break.

The game started off early when John Wolyniec found himself running deep into the box from the right side. Wolyniec was unable to get a good shot off because of the angle he came in from. The ball just missed and rolled out for a goal kick.

In the 23rd minute of the game a bad mistake in the Metro defense led to a miss from Eddie Gaven, as he was unable to clear the ball, Chris Armas picked it up and took a great shot only a few feet away from the goal. The MetroStars would find themselves trailing early in the first half.

In the 42nd minute Gaven makes up for his mistake when a great run on the left side results in a foul just on the line of the box. A penelty kick is called and Amado Guevara would be the one to step up. As every goalkeeper knows in this league, Amado always goes to his left, knowing that Henry Ring went left on the penelty but was unable to reach it, and the Metros were tied going into halftime.

Later into the second half a great lead pass from Mike Magee sent John Wolyniec on the run, after making it into the box he chipped a nice ball over Chicago goalkeeper, and it found it's way into the far corner. This would give the MetroStars as lead over Chicago for the first time in the game.

The MetroStars would be able to hold on for the win on that summer night. Bradley would earn his 100th career win, giving the MetroStars a 1st place spot in the east going into the All-Star weekend.
