German Bundesliga.2

SpVgg Unterhaching vs. FC Energie Cottbus (2-1)

Gregg Berhalter – Started and went the distance in the loss for Cottbus who gave up two unanswered goals in the loss.

Steaua Bucuresti vs. Standard Liege (2-0)

Oguchi Onyewu - Gooch started in usual spot in central defense for Liege going the distance in the loss in Bucharest. Good news this week as Liege has made the move for Onyewu permanent by converting the loan deal with FC Metz into a full transfer.

UEFA Champions League

Rosenborg vs. PSV Eindhoven (1-2)

Robbie Russell - Robbie started in defense for Rosenborg going the distance.

DaMarcus Beasley - DMB came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute for fellow midfielder Jefferson Farfan. John de Jong scored the late winner for PSV which puts them at the top of the table in Group E one point ahead of Arsenal.

UEFA Champions League

Ajax vs. Maccabi Tel-Aviv (3-0)

John O’Brien - John was not in the lineup for this game. JOB did make the matchday squad on the bench for this past weekend’s debacle against Heerenveen (1-3). John is now fit so it’ll be interesting to see if he gets a game this week against fellow USMNT player DaMarcus Beasley (PSV Eindhoven).

Sparta Prague vs. Manchester United (0-0)

Tim Howard - Tim was not in the team that went to Prague. As Roy Carroll continues to play well in goal for the Red Devils, Timmy will have to wait his turn to get back into the mix.

Jonathan Spector - Jon was not in the team that went to Prague. It’s going to be tough for Jon to break into the first team with Rio, Heinze, the Neville’s, Silvestre, & Brown in front of him in the pecking order. He does however continue to feature in the reserves as he started in a win against the Liverpool Reserves (5-2). With a good run in the reserves, maybe a loan move in the future might be his best bet.

English League Championship

Preston North End vs. Queens Park Rangers (2-1)

Eddie Lewis - Eddie started in his customary left midfield spot for PNE going the distance in the win. Early on Eddie almost scored off a corner as QPR goalkeeper tips his shot over the bar. In the second half, Eddie appeared to score off a pass from Richard Cresswell but a penalty was given as Cresswell was fouled just before the pass. Incidentally, David Healy missed the ensuing penalty kick. Eddie did pick up a late yellow card in this game after he was upset for being tackled from behind by QPR’s Marc Bircham .

Frankie Simek - The young Arsenal defender was sent out on loan for one month to Queens Park Rangers. Previously only appearing in reserve matches this season for the Gunners, he played a full 90 minutes in his first appearance at center back for QPR lining up against fellow Yank Eddie Lewis. Considering that he hadn’t met his teammates until the morning of the game, he made a good showing getting plaudits from the gaffer Ian Holloway. QPR has a mess of injuries currently on their back line so Frankie should get a few games during his loan spell.

Reading vs. Leeds United (1-1)

Marcus Hahnemann - Marcus gave up an early goal in the 1st minute to Leeds midfielder Simon Walton. Marcus was called on to make 2 important saves. One in the 41st minute against Brett Ormerod who attempted to hit the top corner but was denied on a diving save by Hahnemann. The second was in the dying seconds of the game as Marcus made a save on a close range header by Brian Deane saving the draw for the Royals.

Bobby Convey - Bobby came on in the 82nd minute for Glen Little. With only a couple of minutes to go, Bobby hit a cross into the box which almost found Dave Kitson for the match winner.
