Revs remain unbeaten, tie Colorado 0-0
Foxboro, MA. – The New England Revolution extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a 0-0 tie against the Colorado Rapids. The Revs extended their home shut-out streak to five games and stayed at the top of the standings.

The Revs were without midfielders Steve Ralston and Clint Dempsey who were away with the US National Team for their match against England. In that game, Dempsey scored the US’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss. "I think any team would like to have them in the lineup," said Head Coach Steve Nicol about the absences. "We had players who were capable. We weren't sharp enough to finish our chances.”

Colorado came out playing defensively and rarely caused the Revs back-line any trouble. The Revs, however, were unable to break down Colorado’s defense. The Rapids would get physical early on with Mike Petke picking up a yellow card in the 13th and Guy Melamed getting one six minutes later, both for fouls on Shalrie Joseph. Melamed would continue to commit reckless fouls against the Revs for the rest of the match.

The Revs out-shot Colorado twelve to five, but couldn’t get past 2004 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Joe Cannon. Pat Noonan found his way through Colorado’s defense in the 26th minute, only to see his shot deflect wide of the net. Three minutes before half time, James Riley found Taylor Twellman in the penalty area, but Twellman was unable to get a shot past Cannon from a tight angle.

Joe Franchino came into the game for Jose Cancela in the 61st minute and just two minutes later sent a through ball to Twellman in the box. Twellman was unable to beat Cannon, but Cannon gave up a rebound. Pat Noonan hesitated for a second and Cannon came out to pounce on the ball.

Guy Melamed was ejected in the 80th minute of the game for a reckless foul on Andy Dorman. Colorado, despite being a man down, managed to prevent the Revs from getting any dangerous chances.

The tie leaves the Revs with a 6-0-3 record and at the top of both the Eastern Conference and the league.
