Late game heroics by Dorman save Revs on Independence Day
Carson, CA. – Andy Dorman silenced a sell-out crowd at the Home Depot Center, scoring on the last kick of the game to give the Revs a 1-1 tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Independence Day. The Galaxy took a late lead and seemed to be headed to victory, but for the late game heroics the Revolution had in store.

The best chance of the first half came in the 23rd minute, when Shalrie Joseph sprung Taylor Twellman free on a breakaway. Twellman tried to chip the ball over goalie Kevin Hartman. Hartman got a hand to the ball however, but it fell to Jose Cancela. Cancela shot to the far corner, only to see Hartman dive down and make the save.

The Galaxy had a few half chances as well, but were unable to put a shot on target or cause any serious challenge to goalkeeper Matt Reis.

Twellman had another great chance in the 49th minute when James Riley headed an Andy Dorman cross across the goal mouth and into the path of Twellman. Twellman’s header from point blank range was sent wide by a diving Hartman.

It was all Galaxy after that and several substitutions provided life to Los Angeles. Reis and the Revolution however managed to keep them at bay until the 87th minute. Rookie Michael Enfield sent home a Herculez Gomez cross with a diving header for his first career MLS goal.

Jose Cancela almost equalized for the Revs before the end of regulation, but his curling free kick was denied by a spectacular save from Hartman.

The Revs tied it up in the last seconds of stoppage time, when Ryan Latham was fouled near the touchline to the right of the box. Joe Franchino stepped up to take the free kick sending it into the box. Taylor Twellman headed the ball down in the box to Shalrie Joseph. Joseph then laid it off to Dorman, who sent it up into the upper right corner for the game-tying goal.

The Revolution (9-1-5) travel to Chicago to take on the Fire next Saturday at 8:30PM. The game can be seen live on WB56.
