Revolution head into All-Star break in first, tie gets Revs back into top spot
Foxboro, MA. - The New England Revolution headed into the All-Star break on top of the league after a 1-1 tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Neither side had many chances in the match and 90 minutes was not enough to separate the two teams.

Herculez Gomez gave the Galaxy the lead in the 16th minute off of a counter attack after the Revs had dominated the early possession. Landon Donovan got the ball past midfield and sent a perfect through ball to Gomez. Free of the Revolution defense Gomez rounded goalkeeper Matt Reis before slotting it home into the empty net for his fourth goal of the season.
Gomez had a chance to double the lead in the 24th minute. This time set free by Peter Vagenas, Gomez opted to try to chip the ball over Reis, but sent it well high of the net.

The Revs tied it up ten minutes later, when Ugo Ihemelu committed a blatant hand ball in the box on a cross. Shalrie Joseph stepped up to take the ensuing penalty kick, sending it to goalie Kevin Hartmanís left, just out of reach of his outstretched arms. Ihemelu committed a few other hand balls, including another in the box, but they went uncalled.

Gomez had another chance at doubling his goal total in the 59th minute, but his shot was right at Reis.

Andy Dorman caused problems for Hartman in the 63rd minute, with a shot from 30 yards out, forcing Hartman to make a diving save.

Jose Cancela was a part of the Revs next two chances in the 70th minute. First his free kick was denied by a diving Hartman. The ensuing corner kick was headed on goal by Taylor Twellman, but Hartman again managed to save it.

The Revs return to action after the All-Star break with a US Open Cup match against the Chicago Fire on August 3rd at 7:30pm in Ludlow, Massachusetts at Lusitano Stadium.
